Omari is a native Philadelphian motivated by a strong desire to assess and understand how trauma and barriers to resources impact child development. He earned a degree in psychology at Morehouse College and pursued a Master’s Degree in Childhood Studies, Psychology, and Public Affairs & Policy at Rutgers University. Omari has wide ranging experience in the social services field; first in the educational and behavioral health settings, then later at an emergency housing provider as a Program and Compliance Director. Currently he works to connect families experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity to high-quality early childhood education programs. He is also a father of four and through this and his professional roles has spent countless hours observing and interacting with children. During the COVID 19 pandemic he realized many children and adults needed help learning how to identify, acknowledge and cope with emotions larger than those typically associated with youth. Omari’s goal is for SPACES to be a catalyst for opening discussion about children’s capacity for experiencing complex emotions.
